Cariboo Regional District issues Boil Water Notice for Horse Lake Water System

139 homes using the Horse Lake Water System, east of 100 Mile House, are being affected by a Boil Water Notice.

The notice, posted by the Cariboo Regional District, was issued as a result of the recent firefighting activities, draining the reservoir below 35 percent.

They said substantial sediment was stirred up and pressure was not maintained.

All users are asked to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before consuming, brushing teeth and washing dishes, washing fruits and vegetables and watering animals, and to use hand sanitizer after hand washing.

This system is on a Water Quality Advisory for Manganese concentrations, exceeding the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines, and boiling water may increase those levels in the water.

The CRD said to use an alternate source of water for preparing baby formula for infants, and food or drinks for young children.

The Boil Water Notice remains in effect until further notice, and more information can be found on the CRD’s website here.
