The new Chief of Staff for Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake sees a lot of potential for both the City and the hospital.
Dr. Jacques Neuhoff, who began integrating into the position in June and starting back on July 1st, took on the position to be part of the solution, adding what better place than to do that here as new projects have begun.
However, Dr. Neuhoff recognizes the challenges that are being faced, such as the staff shortage.
“We’ve got a lot of people working behind it, and that’s one of my learning experiences to be honest.” says Dr. Neuhoff.
“Before I got into this role, you always think ‘oh, nobody’s doing anything’ but the moment you step on the other side of the curtain, it’s unbelievable to see the amount of people that’s actually working on a solution, and that has faith in the site, and faith in the people, and that was reassuring.”
Another challenge Dr. Neuhoff provided was June’s “code orange” bus accident by Lac La Hache, but mentioned how quickly staff rallied and prepared, showing how well they can work together.
On top of these challenges, there’s been negativity through social media as of late, and has had some impact on hospital staff, making it tough for some to go to work with a smile.
He says the best way to show support to healthcare workers is by giving a thank you, as it can go a long way.
