100 Mile House Parkinson Superwalk a success after raising thousands

The 100 Mile House Parkinson Superwalk was a success after seeing plenty of attendees and money raised.

The walk, which took place on Saturday (September 7th), raised $3,550 online and over $1,700 during the event for better access to medications and treatments, with better support for caregivers and specialized education for healthcare professionals.

Co-Facilitator for the local Parkinson’s Support Group, Marylin Vinson explains the importance for events such as this.

“Parkinson’s is such a complex disease. It affects everybody different, and that makes the need for research even more pressing than anything really.” says Vinson.

“We all have different symptoms, and we’re all looking for answers.”

Vinson says she hopes to have Parkinson Support Group meetings return, where they used to have speakers, dietitians, pharmacists take part.

She says to help make that happen, people can call either her (250-395-4070) or Philip Konrad (250-395-3925), but for the time being, they meet at the A&W.

Vinson also gave thanks to the Superwalk sponsors who donated door prizes, and mentions that the community has been wonderful helping them out.
