The District of 100 Mile House announced it will proceed with the recommendation of the redevelopment of all wells.
The District said different treatments and reconstruction methods will be done to each well, extending operational life, but require significant investment and effort.
Cooler weather, community’s efforts toward water conservation, and decreased draw on the overall water system, the sani-station and bulk water station will re-open to the public today (September 11th).
However, Mayor Maureen Pinkney imagines the services closing once the well redevelopment begins.
“Probably off and on. It’ll all depend on how that redevelopment goes.” says Pinkney.
“Those wells are down 600 feet so, until we pull them up we can assume what’s happening down there, but we’ll know for sure once we start on the project.”
Pinkney hopes the services will remain open until people wrap up their summer holidays, but notes hunters travel through the area, which will use more water.
The District said the redevelopment of the wells will begin in the coming weeks.
As for how long the project will take, she wasn’t able to give a concrete timeline, as some will depend on what’s found in the wells such as parts needed that aren’t readily available.
The District thanks the community for their support and ask that residents follow watering restrictions until redevelopment is complete.
