ICBC is doing it’s part to help people prepare for the Family Day long weekend.
Spokesperson, Joanna Linsangan says it never hurts to be on the ball.
“Make sure that your vehicle is just as prepared as you are, so in addition to packing your weekend bag also pack your emergency kit which should include winter items like sand, clothing and blankets.”
Linsangan adds it comes down to common sense when it comes to highway safety.
“Do your best to slow down since we do not have optimal road conditions plus the enforced speed limits are for dry sunny conditions. We have slick road conditions throughout the province and the best thing you can do is cut down on your speed and double the distance between you and the car in front.”
On average, 24 people are killed and 5700 are injured in 19,000 crashes every February in B.C.
Road conditions can be unpredictable this time of year due to snow, sleet, fog, heavy rain and ice.
