BC Wildfire Service crews continue to battle the Moose Valley wildfire, but the status continues trending in the right direction.
The fire, 11 kilometres southwest of 108 Mile and 13 kilometres northwest of 100 Mile House, is being classified as under control with crews remaining on scene continuing to mop up, and skidders on the east and west flank along with other work.
Even though the fire is under control, Fire Information Officer Jeromy Corrigan says the size still remains at 290 hectares.
“Crews are going to continue to mop up, look for hotspots around the fire, establish those wetlines as they continue to put work on that fire.”
“Regardless, I just think it’s a really positive for the wildfire to be changed from being held to under control so, kudos to the great work that crews are doing down in the 100 Mile zone, especially this past week.”
The long weekend is also fast approaching, which Corrigan encourages those going out to remember the Category 1 campfire ban is still in place.
Category 2 and 3 prohibitions also remain, which include activities like fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description, binary exploding targets, tiki and similar kinds of torches, chimneys and air curtain burners.
CSA or ULC rated outdoor stoves for cooking, heat, or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel with a flame height of under 15 centimetres tall are still able to be used.
