The provincial government is “strongly” urging people to be vigilant about fire as the B-C Day long holiday weekend approaches.
The B-C Wildfire Service says the threat is especially acute in the south, where heat warnings are in effect and no precipitation in the forecast.
A ban on campfires continues in effect across southern B-C……though the prohibition has been lifted in the Prince George and Northwest fire centres.
Meanwhile, officials in Jasper say they hope to have a plan in place soon to allow thousands of evacuated visitors return to collect their camping equipment.
The Alberta government plans to release schedules shortly for bus tours to the devastated town so residents can view the damage.
However, a date for their return is still up in the air, as crews work to restore water, electricity, and natural gas connections.
The wildfire that swept through the town last week is still burning out of control.
