Update: Two Evacuation Orders issued for Chilcotin River Landslide Area

Update (2:46pm):

The Cariboo Regional District has issued a second Evacuation Order for the Chilcotin River Landslide Area.

Chilcotin River Landslide Area 2 includes 26 parcels, and covers 3,481 hectares.

The CRD says due to immediate danger to life safety due to flooding caused by landslide, members of the RCMP or other groups will be expediting this action.

They say the residents in that area must leave immediately and first responders may be unable to assist anyone who remains in the Evacuation Order area.

Those evacuating can take available routes north to Highway 20 and East into Williams Lake.

Update (12:55pm):

An Evacuation Order has been put in place for 34 parcels in the Chilcotin River Landslide area.

The CRD says due to immediate danger to life safety due to flooding caused by landslide, members of the RCMP or other groups will be expediting this action.

They say the residents in that area must leave immediately and first responders may be unable to assist anyone who remains in the Evacuation Order area.

Those evacuating can take available routes north to Highway 20 and East into Williams Lake.

Those evacuating should:

  • Leave the area immediately
  • Close all windows and doors
  • Do not shut off your natural gas
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock
  • Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and Keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
  • Do not use more vehicles than you have to.
  • Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.
  • Register with Emergency Social Support Services (ESS). 1-866-759-4977

Update (12:31pm):

The Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre has declared a State of Local Emergency Order for Electoral Area K.

The Order comes as flooding due to the landslide poses an existing or imminent threat to people and property within the area.

They said the emergency requires prompt coordination of action or special regulation of persons or property to protect the health, safety or well-being of people or the safety of property or objects or sites of heritage value.

The State of Local Emergency will remain until August 14th, at midnight, unless cancelled by the CRD or the Minister responsible.

Original (10:19am):

Central Cariboo Search and Rescue (CCSAR) is currently responding to an injured individual and landslide west of Williams Lake.

The Tsilhqot’in National Government confirmed the incident on Facebook this morning, and said they have activated their Emergency Operations Centre to a level one.

They also said the landslide occurred near Nagwentled (Farwell Canyon), and are looking into the situation.

CCSAR is responding with their Frontline Helicopter and Land Search and Rescue Team.
