Cariboo residents could be seeing groups of bike riders raising funds for cancer.
25 students from the University of Texas have been making their way from Austin, Texas and will end in Anchorage, Alaska through the over 4,000 mile Sierra route.
Alex Fraser Research Forest Manager, Stephanie Ewen says they’re making multiple stops in the Cariboo.
“Tonight they will be stopping at the Alex Fraser Research Forest Property on Fox Mountain.” says Ewen.
“I know that they’re going to stop in at the Boitanio Day Camp and cool off there, and meet some of the kids there probably, and then they will do their final leg up to Fox Mountain from there. Tomorrow night, I believe they intend to stay in Quesnel.”
Yesterday (July 8th), the riders made a stop and stayed overnight in 100 Mile House.
Ewen says the riders will be in separate groups, however mentions caution should still be taken when coming across them by slowing down, giving them a good amount of space and move around them.
The ride began on May 25th, and is expected to conclude on August 2nd, with more information and where to donate on the Texas 4000 website here.
