RCMP provide update on school bus crash near Lac La Hache

The investigation into a serious accident involving a school bus near Lac La Hache continues.

The bus, on a class trip, was travelling south on Highway 97 when it went down a 50-foot embankment near Butler Road resulting in several injuries.

Soon after that, police say a pedestrian, identified as a 67-year old man from the Cariboo was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle.

100 Mile Sergeant Brian Lamb provided an update earlier today (Tuesday).

“BC Highway Patrol are continuing the investigation into the causal factors that led to the school bus collision which occurred on June 21st. Investigators are in the process of speaking with those affected or involved.”

Lamb added that with the school year ending, they also want to ensure that people who were involved in the collision directly or indirectly have appropriate information.

“Parents with students involved in the bus crash can call ICBC at 1-800-910-4222.

“There is a dedicated selection after the greeting, so parents can select #9 to create their claim, and get access to counselling and medical supports for their children.”

Lamb says there are several local resources available.

“Child and Youth Mental Health at (250) 395-5633, Interior Health at (250) 395-7676 for parent support, the Cariboo Family Enrichment Center at (250) 395-5155 and through the RCMP’s Victim Services at (250) 395-0456.”

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call the 100 Mile RCMP Detachment (250) 395-2456, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
