100 Mile House area under a severe thunderstorm watch

Residents in 100 Mile House may want to keep their eye on the sky for a potential thunderstorm.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch, which could bring strong wind gusts, hail and torrential rain.

Meteorologist, Chris Doyle says the watch could see an upgrade to a warning if conditions persist.

“All the ingredients are there for a severe thunderstorm.” says

“Environment Canada Meteorologists are watching radar and satellite imagery to see if anything meeting the severe criteria is starting to develop, and if that’s the case, the watch would be upgraded to a warning.”

Doyle says that the community could see some heavy downpour, which he says could affect traffic, and potentially create flash flooding.

He noted conditions are forecast to continue until the evening, with rain looking to carry over into tomorrow.

As for Williams Lake, he says if the conditions develop, the area could experience some thunder, but not enough for a watch.

Doyle asks that residents remember that if thunder roars, stay indoors.

More information regarding the weather can be found on Environment Canada’s website here.
