2023 Citizen of The Year soon to be announced in the south Cariboo

The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce is in the process of picking the 2023 Citizen of The Year.

A committee, consisting of 20 past Citizens of The Year, looks through the submissions sent in by peers of the nominees.

Chamber CEO, Donna Barnett says work is already being done to chose the next citizen of the year.

“We have seven nominees this year, and all very very honourable nominees as they always are.”

“It’s a great honour just to be nominated, and the committee is in the process of dealing with it.”

Barnett mentions the importance of recognizing volunteers, saying they work tireless hours, giving the community their time.

She says people love helping other people, putting on events, and being part of the community.

Barnett encourages more community members to take part in volunteering, even if it’s just an hour.

The award will be presented at the Canada Day celebration on July 1st, at the 108 Heritage Site on the stage.
