Williams Lake Mustangs Ownership Busy And Excited To Be Bringing Back Jr Hockey

One of the two new Cariboo teams in the K-I-J-H-L is hard at work getting everything together for the upcoming season.

Head Coach and General Manager of the Williams Lake Mustangs Tyrel Lucas said the ownership group is very excited to bring back Junior hockey to the Lake City fans.

Lucas said building a culture for this new team starts in the locker room which translates to a good product on the ice and in the weeks leading up to the season opener is going to be a busy time for the organization.

Our main camp is August 16th to 18th and then the preseason starts the first week of September. So we’ll have a home and home with Quesnel September 6th and 7th and then a home and home the following week with 100 Mile House. The season will start September 20th at home here in Williams Lake.”

Lucas added that having teams in 100 Mile House and Quesnel will be great for the league and he looks forward to the rivalries it will create.

And while the heavy lifting continues to get the club ready for the upcoming season Lucas said the support they’ve had so far from the community has been totally overwhelming.

We cannot thank the community enough already. It’s been unbelievable to see the support from the businesses, the volunteers stepping up, fans are already buying season tickets. It kind of shows that, I think, the community has been wanting Junior hockey back for awhile and we’re super excited to be able to deliver that.”
