May was a busy month for members of the Williams Lake Fire Department.
Fire Chief Evan Dean said they saw an increase in the number of calls for service, 45, compared to 39 in May of last year.
Of those the Department responded to, Dean noted that alarm calls were the most common followed by wild land, vehicle, and structure fires, as well as a number of motor vehicles incidents.
Since the beginning of the year there has also been an alarming increase in the number of call outs to date.
“Throughout the Province there has been a continued trend of call volumes increasing year over year and for us for comparison we reached our 250 call threshold this year on the first week of June. Compared to last year we’re two full months ahead
Dean said the Williams Lake Fire Department experienced a surge in the early Spring because of how dry it was and that they haven’t even reached their typical busy season just yet.
“We want everyone to remember to ensure that they are extinguishing any campfires that they having. There are no bans in effect right now on campfires but also to be mindful that there are Category bans from the Fire Centre in the Region,” Dean added.
