A Zoning Bylaw change is being considered by the Cariboo Regional District to ensure compliance with provincial housing legislation.
This comes after the the CRD meeting on May 24th, with staff looking to propose amendments to the Quesnel Fringe Area, Williams Lake Fringe, 150 Mile House Area, and South Cariboo Area Zoning Bylaws.
The CRD said this would put the bylaws in line with the new provincial housing legislation, and give clarity that a minimum of one secondary suite within a single-family dwelling is allowed in any provincially designated “restricted zone”.
Secondary suites will still need to follow existing zoning standards for size and siting, as well as BC Building Code requirements.
Back in 2018, the CRD adopted bylaw amendments allowing accessory dwelling units in all residential and rural zones.
Some special exception zones weren’t included in the amendments, making them “restricted zones” by the new housing legislation.
There are roughly 50 to 60 parcels that may be considered a “restricted zone.”
The draft bylaw amendments will be provided to the CRD Board on June 20th.
