Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Lorne Doerkson will be the BC Conservatives candidate for the region’s riding.
Doerkson, alongside party leader, John Rustad, made the announcement that he would be leaving the BC United Party earlier this afternoon in an effort to help remove NDP leader, David Eby.
He says the Conservative party is the only other option for the upcoming election.
“I have heard from very many that they feel that there is a grassroots movement in this province, and that it is the Conservatives that are pulling into the lead, and that they are the only real alternate party in the province to the NDP.”
While he was elected under the now BC United Party, Doerkson doesn’t want to lose those who voted for him, adding that the BC United has changed over the last four years under leader, Kevin Falcon.
He says at the end of the day, he represents the Cariboo-Chilcotin, no matter their political interest, and will do his best for everyone that walks into their office.
Doerkson looks forward to working with Rustad and the Conservatives, whether it’s axing the carbon tax, reforming the healthcare system, among others.
Rustad said “As the MLA for the Cariboo-Chilcotin, Lorne has been a tireless advocate for his region and the vital resources within it.”
The Conservative party will be running 93 candidates in the upcoming provincial election, which is scheduled for October 19th, 2024.
