Williams Lake Fire Department respond to two wildfires

The Williams Lake Fire Department were called out late last night to what was believed to be a structure fire.

At around 11:30pm, crews were called to Murray Drive, and upon arrival the call type was updated to two separate wildfires spreading along the backside of numerous properties above the train tracks.

Fire Chief Evan Dean said “one fire, located on the hillside at the end of the Cul-de-sac, was approximately 1 hectare in size, and was working it’s way through the grass.”

“The second fire, closer to the Murray/Boundary area was located near the rear of the properties and spreading into machinery and equipment.”

Dean added that they had two large apparatus, two command vehicles, and 12 firefighters attend the fires to limit the spread.

He said there was property damage to the rear of the businesses, but no structural impact.

Crews left the scene at around 1:15am, and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
