Quesnel Airport Receives Funding For Terminal Building Upgrades

The province is investing $11 million through the BC Air Access Program to support two dozen airports throughout BC including two in the Cariboo.

The Quesnel Airport will be receiving $272,000 for terminal building upgrades.

Airport and Transit Supervisor Tommy Grant said they plan to use some of that money for lighting, furnaces and hot water tanks as well as other projects.

“We are going to try and make the holding area a little bit more accessible for coming and going and create a new vestibule area within the holding area and a bunch of changes to the LED lighting and bunch of other small changes within the terminal building.”

Once these projects get started we asked if there would be any inconveniences which Grants said there may be times when they are redoing Central Mountain Air’s flooring within their office they may have to switch over for a day or two.

“Or when we do the major change to the doors within the holding area that we’ll have to come up with some sort of plan to get passengers in and out but that should just be a short period of time so we’re not overly concerned with that.”

Grant added that they are in the planning stage for when to get started on these projects and have until March of 2025 to get the upgrades done.

The 100 Mile House Airport also received $35,000 to develop an airport master plan.
