Williams Lake Mayor feeling the pressure as Elks Hall decision looms

Williams Lake City Council will soon be giving their decision on Elks Hall turning into a temporary emergency shelter.

Back on March 12th, Council put the final decision on hold for two weeks to gather community sentiment.

Mayor Surinderpal Rathor isn’t surprised with the pressure being felt.

“Council decided to give the option to the community to raise their concerns, and I requested to the community to send us your yay or nay but make sure to send solutions.” says Rathor.

“There’s lots of mail, messages and letters that have been coming.”

Rathor added that with all the community’s thoughts going to council, he’s sure all will be looked through.

One thing that he did note was how engaged the community has been on the topic, saying for as long he’s been with council, few decisions have reached this magnitude of concern.

He says there’s no question that there’s talk whether for or against the proposed shelter.

Community members are still able to give their thoughts on the proposal until tomorrow (Sunday, March 24th) evening.

Previous story on the temporary emergency shelter can be found here.
