Nine daytime high records were broken yesterday (January 31) in the province which included Williams Lake and Quesnel.
“In Williams Lake we saw a new daytime high temperature record of 10.3 degrees beating the old record of 10 set in 1962,” Environment Canada Meteorologist Lisa Erven said, “and for Quesnel a new record was also set with 13.5 degrees at the airport station and that beat the old record of 12.2 all the way back in 1935, almost a 90-year record being broken there.”
Erven said records will be set once again today for daytime highs in both communities.
“With the forecast for today in Williams Lake calling for plus 10, when we look at the current standing record of only 8.1 degrees in 1986, we could very well set another temperature record. In Quesnel we have a daytime of near 12 degrees and the old record from that same year was 12.2 so we’re certainly certainly is the realm of beating that.”
Erven noted that the Cariboo and the province will finally be saying good bye to this mild air mass and return to seasonal temperatures over the weekend.
“That means daytime highs dropping down to near zero and maybe only minus 1. In the overnight period we’ll see more typical overnight cooling with temperatures dropping down minus 9 or 10, even into the minus teens next week.”
