It’s taken five years but Central Cariboo Search and Rescue now has their own Rope Rescue Team Leader.
Member and Public Relations Coordinator Deborah Bortolussi said Deputy Chief Dawn Unruh, with help from the entire Rope Rescue Team, helped get her certified for that position
“It’s an incredible feat to get any Wild Land Rope Rescue certification. It’s hours upon hours of practice. It’s multiple weekends of training and going for the certification as well. So it took a lot of stages for her to get to this and we’re (CCSAR) incredibly proud of her and our entire Wild Land Rope Rescue Team who helped her get there.”
Bortolussi says prior to having a certified Rope Rescue Team Leader, they relied on mutual aid from South Cariboo, Prince George, or Quesnel Search and Rescue teams for them to attend Wild Land Rope Rescue calls.
“We are still working on getting a couple more members certified in the Tech-1 and Tech-2 so that we can have our own independent team, but right now this means that we can be the people who can go assist on those mutual aid calls, we can provide the team leader and we can just continue to grow as a team.”
