Williams Lake swimmers come home with over a dozen medals

The Williams Lake Blue Fins competed in the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG), taking 17 medals home.

Morgan Langford and Jadyn Johnston both won eight medals, with Elise Jonanson taking a bronze medal.

“It’s certainly a celebration and a moment of pride for the team. Swimming has a unique opportunity where we do have a lot of different events, so the medal count coming from Swimming BC is usually significant.” says Chad Webb, Head Coach.

“We’re probably over 40 medals now, so with our swimmers getting almost half of those medals, it was pretty cool.”

Langford and Johnston competed in the U-19 division, with Jonanson in U-14, doing various events such as backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and others.

Webb added that events like this usually take three to four days, but this years was only two (July 19th and 20th).

As to if they expected this kind of success, he says they expected to place well, as Langford is one of the top swimmers in the province, and Johnston won seven gold medals in his first NAIG.
