A former Williams Lake Blue Fin will attempt the ultimate swim tomorrow…and not in a pool.
Scott Rees, who over the years, lost his vision to Retinitis Pigmentosa, will swim 30 kilometres from near Sechelt to Nanaimo to raise awareness and money for a very special charity.
“I’m swimming across the Strait of Georgia to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind program which is the charity that helped me by giving me a guide dog two years ago.” Rees said, “It’s been a huge improvement in what I can do and independent mobility in my life so it’s my hopeful plan to give back to them.”

Rees said depending on the weather it will probably take him 10 to 12 hours to complete and he won’t be alone in his quest.
“I use a headset that I receive instructions from someone who comes along in a boat or a kyak that has a radio that that can tell me basically which way to go, so depending who and what their goals are they can take me straight or take me on a nice curvy route and I just listen them according to the direction.”
Tomorrow (July 22) Rees will start his swim near Sechelt to Nanaimo which is 30 kilometres in length.
