The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire this (Thursday) afternoon.
Duty Officer Bart Schneider says they were called to area just off Abbott Drive at 3-36 p.m.
Upon arrival, he says it was about a 20 by 30 by 40 grass fire with winds pushing it to the east.
“While I waited for the engine crew to arrive I used a water extinguisher to slow it down and help contain it. Once the engine crew got here they immediately went around and got all the hot spots, and at this point in time we’re just making sure that we’ve got all the hot spots, and we’ve got it completely contained and 100 percent out.”
Schneider says there was no need for mutual aid.
“We’ve got an engine crew, a tender crew and then we’ve also got a second crew that I had come out just to help with the mop up and digging everything out.”
He says they are still not 100 percent sure about a cause.
“At this point in time no. There is a bit of debris around and I did have a call that was quite obvious that it was lit earlier this morning.”
As for her who alerted them to the fire, Schneider says they had multiple calls.
