The Dragon Lake Boat Launch is about to get a face lift, and that’s just the beginning.
The City of Quesnel, following a lengthy process that began early last year, now has a license of occupation for the boat launch which means it can now move forward with repairs.
Lindsay Blair is the Senior Community Development Coordinator.
“Repairs are going to take place this weekend. EMCON and Fresno Construction have very generously donated all time, materials and equipment to get the boat launch repaired so it is going to be no cost to the city at all. Those will take place on Saturday. The boat launch will be closed for Saturday and maybe Sunday if the repairs take a little bit longer.”
Blair says there will also be a public dock installed later in the year.
“That dock will be funded and installed by Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, which are called Go Fish BC. The dock will have a 20 foot long ramp which will be 6 feet wide and a 30 foot long walkway which will also be 6 feet wide with a 40 foot long t-section that will be two 8 foot wide 20 foot long sections for the dock, so it will be fully wheelchair accessible.”
Blair says the ramp will be pinned to the shore using a five metre pin and the dock will be anchored using chains and concrete blocks.
And then looking further down the road, the city hopes to build a new boat launch.
“There will be public consultation, probably starting with Lets connect Quesnel. Next steps will be confirming funding for the next stage of the boat launch, so the double wide boat launch, line painting for the parking lot, and a new outhouse. An aquatic engineer will need to design the launch which can be a costly process.”
Blair says more section 11 approvals will be needed and that can take 6 to 8 months.
