Teepee And Trout Lake Fires Have Merged In The Quesnel Fire Zone

One wildfire of note has grown after merging with the Trout Lake fire in the Quesnel Zone.

Fire Information Officer Jessica Mack said that happened over the weekend and the Teepee Lake wildfire in the Nazko region is now 2,970 hectares in size.

“Ground personnel are continuing to mop up sections where we did have planned ignitions previously and we are working on containment lines focusing in on that northeast and eastern flank of the fire. We did have a spot cross the Black water river to the east a few days ago and we will begin gaining access to that and getting control lines around that section of the wildfire.”

The Townsend Creek wildfire south west of Quesnel is 2,784 hectares.

“We do have control lines around the entire wildfire for that incident,” Mack said, “and we have utilized natural features where we where able to. Today the focus will be on continuing to mop up any remaining hot spots within the fire perimetre and along control lines.”

The Anahim Peak Wildfire north west of Anahim Lake is 1950 Hectares in size.

Mack said yesterday the fire behaviour continued to display rank 3 and 4 fire intensity and with support of heavy equipment, ground crews and air support, they didn’t see any additional significant growth.

“Today the focus will be on getting control lines on that eastern flank of that fire where it did cross the Dean River Road and the river, and ground crews are working on the Dean River establishing a fuel free hand guard. We do have assessments going on the northern flank determining where we can establish some control lines there.”

Mack said the Pelican Lake Fire 6 kilometres east of the community of Titetown is 2,700 hectares.

“We will have skimmers that are out on that incident as we begin to utilize more direct attack methods to that southeastern section of the fire. These skimmers will go and cool any hot spots that may be remaining and just ensure the safety of crews as they work to establish a hand guard on that southeastern section of the fire.”
