Fire Information Officer Madison Dahl said the Pelican Lake Wildfire 6 kilometres east of the community of Titetown is now 300 hectares.
“BC Wildfire Service ground crews received additional support yesterday (July 11) from local contract crews and heavy equipment. Air tankers were able to lay retardant to help suppress the fire but there very challenging conditions on that fire.”
Just before 9:30 last night (July 11) the Cariboo Regional District issued an Evacuation Order for 644 parcels in the Pelican Lake area.
The Teepee Lake wildfire, on the edge of Kluskoil Lake Park in the Nazko Region also increased in size.
Dahl said it is now 1500 hectares.
“It was discovered late on July 10th and BC Wildfire Service has personnel on site actioning the fire. Aerial support will be available as needed.”
The Townsend Creek Wildfire south west of Quesnel remains at 921 hectares.
Dahl noted that there are over 60 personnel assigned to that fire along with heavy equipment, air tankers and helicopter support.
“We have structure protection on that fire,” Dahl said, “and structure protection has been successful, there are no structures that have been lost despite very challenging conditions.”
The Branch Road wildfire remains at 819 hectares and over 40 personnel have been assigned to that fire along with heavy equipment on site and air support as well.
As of this morning (July 12) Dahl noted that there are 36 active fires within the Cariboo Fire Centre, 9 started yesterday and 6 were called out.
