Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a heat warning, with temperatures expected to reach above 30.
Lisa Erven, Meteorologist, says that temperatures in the Cariboo should stay steady at around the 32 degree mark, but notes that overnight is also a concern, as it’ll stay in the mid teens.
She says that this sort of temperature could continue to persist past the weekend.
“Today, tomorrow, and perhaps even into Monday, and then we’ll start to see temperatures decreasing to closer to seasonal or maybe staying slightly above seasonal, but overall, trending downwards.” says Erven.
As for if any records could be broken this weekend, Erven expects the Cariboo to get close, as the record is between 33-34 degrees.
There is also a chance of rain and thunderstorms in the Cariboo this weekend, but should only see a few millimetres.
Erven added that people should make sure to stay safe this weekend, by drinking plenty of water, staying in a cool place, and to also not leave people or pets in vehicles.
