New Accessibility Committee Being Formed In The District Of 100 Mile House

The District of 100 Mile House is looking for five volunteer members to serve on their new Accessibility Committee.

Deputy Director of Corporate Administration, Sheena Elias, said the District is included in over 750 public sector organizations across the province listed in the Accessible BC regulation to form an accessibility committee.

“The Committee members could expect discussion on current barriers to accessibility that we may have, discussions on ways to prevent future barriers and hear from other organizations that have experienced barriers.” Elias said, “It is projected there will be 2 to 3 meetings this year and will taper off as the plan is established. The Committee will then meet at the minimum annually.”

Elias noted that members will provide advice to Council on their upcoming accessibility plan and on ways to help prevent and remove barriers making the District more accessible and welcoming to all residents.

They’ll also have the opportunity while in Council Chambers to hear from any local organization that feels they have something to add to the future accessibility plan.

The new Accessibility Committee will aim for at least half of its members be persons with disabilities  and or represent a disability-serving organization.

Deadline to submit an application to the District of 100 Mile House is July 21st.
