Positive discussions were held between Williams Lake Mayor and Premier

Premier David Eby was able to hear first hand about the various issues Williams Lake currently faces.

All that was brought up included homelessness and housing, healthcare, water treatment plant, prolific offenders, Tolko layoffs and how they can help those affected, the Highway 20 slippage.

Mayor Surinderpal Rathor walked out of the discussions confident that the issues got across to the Premier.

“He said most of the issues I raised, they are the target and he’s aware of them.” says Rathor.

“By us raising all those points, it pushed them closer to the heart of the issue that needed his attention.”

Rathor mentioned the severity of one of the examples, being the water treatment plant, and how continuing to push it back will only hurt the project.

He says the window isn’t large to get construction to start, and doesn’t want to see costs go up again if it gets pushed to next year.

Even though the issues were brought to Eby’s attention, Rathor says there’s no guarantees anything will get done, but he expects to hear from him in the future.
