Quesnel City Council supports funding application for the Troll Ski Resort

A request for support came from the Cariboo Regional District on behalf of the Troll Mountain Resort.

The request is to the province’s Destination Development Fund for the ski hill to expand its terrain.

Mayor Ron Paull, speaking at Tuesday night’s Council meeting, called the project a win-win.

“Not only for the potential for the Lhtako/Quesnel 2024 Games, but as you will note from the letter that when this project is completed it will double the skiable area at Troll.  It will be a tourism generator and all of those tourists have to come through Quesnel and spend their money.”

City Manager Byron Johnson also endorsed the project.

“The key thing is that this creates an even better facility right on the doorstep of Quesnel, which if plans go according to what they’re suggesting in their letter, will be used in the Lhtako/Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games.  So it’s going to be a great addition to that facility and it will be needed for those games, so I think it’s a really good application.”

A letter to Council indicates that the project is shovel ready and would include a new lift, engineering and installation of the towers, installing a haul cable, and finishing logging the runs.
