Rumours of refugee resettlement in the area were refuted at last night’s meeting of the 100 Mile House and District Council.
Enough messages were sent addressing the concern that it required a response says Mayor Mitch Campsall who set the record straight on the refugee crisis and its impact on the district:
“The municipality and regional district are NOT involved in bringing refugees to the area. I just want to make that clear because we’ve seen some pretty nasty emails and it has to stop.”
The rumours may have started with a statement issued last month by Premier Christy Clark suggesting that rural areas would be more favourable for refugee resettlement.
However, the statements were quickly clarified as meaning ‘less urban city centres’ such as Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon, or even Prince George.
