Quesnel Community Foundation provides record number of grants this year

It was a record-setting year for the Quesnel Community Foundation in terms of providing grants to community groups in the area.

They were awarded late last week.

President Bob Salmons has the details.

“It was a very good night actually, we were able to give funding to 24 different organizations to a total of just under 141 thousand dollars.  We had a lot of happy people.”

Both of those numbers were new records.

The Foundation handed out just over 100 thousand dollars last year, which was also a record.

Salmons says they had some larger grants this year as well.

“$12,000 to the Kersley Community Association to install some equipment at the community playground, 12 thousand for the Canadian Mental Health Association, $11,000 for the Back Country Horsemen for a campground enhancement project, picnic tables and fire pits, and 10 thousand to the Quesnel Arts Council to purchase banners and murals for their 50th anniversary.”

Salmons says the endowment fund is now up over 4.1 million dollars.

It is the revenue generated from that that goes out to the community each year.

Salmons says their big fundraiser isn’t until the end of the year now, but he says they are always accepting donations.
