Quesnel and Williams Lake Have New Mayors

Change is in the air in the Cariboo as there will be new Mayors in Williams Lake and Quesnel.

In Quesnel, long-time Councillor Ron Paull defeated incumbent Bob Simpson.

  • Ron Paull – 1,179 votes
  • Bob Simpson – 969 votes
  • David Schille – 86 votes
  • Brian Waters – 50 votes

Surrinderpal Rathor won a four-person race in the Lake City.

  • Surrinderpal Rathor – 1,091 votes
  • Jason Ryll – 898 votes
  • Walt Cobb – 773 votes
  • Kerry Cook – 427 votes

Maureen Pinkney has been acclaimed as Mayor of 100 Mile House.

In Quesnel, all of the incumbents Councillors survived.

Debra McKelvie was the lone newcomer, filling the seat left vacant by Paull to run for Mayor.

  • Scott Elliott – 1,451 votes
  • Mitch Vik – 1,293 votes
  • Laurey-Anne Roodenburg – 1,215 votes
  • Tony Goulet – 1,189 votes
  • Debra McKelvie – 1,158 votes
  • Martin Runge – 992 votes

Newcomer Joan Flaspohler topped the polls for Councillor in Williams Lake, with Incumbent Sheila Boehm in second followed by Micheal Moses, Scott Nelson, Angie Delainey, and Jazmyn Lyons.

  • Joan Flaspohler – 1,831 votes
  • Sheila Boehm – 1,557 votes
  • Micheal Moses – 1,488 votes
  • Scott Nelson – 1,485 votes
  • Angie Delainey – 1,403 votes
  • Jazmyn Lyons – 1,357 votes

Incumbents Ivan Bonnell, Marnie Brenner, and Craig Smith are all out.

In 100 Mile House, former Mayor and MLA Donna Barnett topped the polls for Councillor. Jenni Guimond was next, followed by incumbents Ralph Fossum and Dave Mingo.

  • Donna Barnett – 344 votes
  • Jenni Guimond – 242 votes
  • Ralph Fossum – 216 votes
  • Dave Mingo – 208 votes

In the Cariboo Regional District, three of four incumbants lost. Only Jim Glassford survived in Area I.

Tolin Pare picked up more than 80 percent of the vote in Area J to defeat Gerald Kirby, Melynda Neufeld won in Area E over incumbent Angie Delainey, and Betty Anderson defeated Chad Mernett in Area K.

  • Angie L Delainey – 148 votes

  • Jim J Glassford – 120 votes
  • Sage E Gordon – 65 votes

-Area J

  • Tolin Pare – 213 votes
  • Gerald P Kirby – 51 votes

-Area K

  • Betty A Anderson – 33 votes
  • Chad L Mernett – 25 votes

There will be four new faces on Quesnel’s Board of Education.

Newcomer Lisa Boudreau led the way.  She was followed by incumbents Tony Goulet and Julie-Anne Runge.  David Chapman, the other incumbent, finished 6th in the voting.

Just one seat was up for grabs in the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District for zone 6.

Micheal Franklin came out on top in a three-way race.
