There were roughly 6 thousand fewer people working in the region last month compared to a year ago.
Andrew Fields, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats-Canada, says that drove the Cariboo’s unemployment rate up to 7.1 percent from just 5 percent in October of 2014.
He says there were notable declines in the natural resource and educational services sectors.
Fields says that offset an increase of approximately 1500 jobs in manufacturing.
Overall, there were approximately 81 thousand people working in the Cariboo last month, down from 87 thousand at the same time last year.
