Quesnel Council Backs West Fraser

Mayor Bob Simpson says it has to do with keeping the Westpine MDF plant competitive and providing some relief to Quesnel River Pulp.

He says West Fraser has been asking for PST relief for about 18 months on the energy that is used to Quesnel River Pulp and he says there are also a couple of BC Hydro programs that they would like some changes to that would actually help those businesses invest in energy conservation measures.

The request, if successful, would also reduce energy costs to the MDF plant.

Simpson says the letter is timely because Treasury Board discussions are currently underway in Victoria towards the 2016 budget.

The letter had the unanimous support of Council.
