Gas Leak Evacuates Visitors Center in 100 Mile House

Update 1 pm: The scene is now cleared and Wrangler Way is open.

Update 12:20 pm: Wrangler Way is still closed to all traffic due to a natural gas leak earlier today.

Fire chief Roger Hollander says the South Cariboo Visitors Center was evacuated as a precaution, and the South Cariboo Recreation Center was told to shelter in place as the only road to the complex is currently closed.

Hollander says the leak was caused by machinery puncturing a line.

Fortis gas is on scene locating and stopping the leak, and Hollander says while the area is secure it will remain closed until further notice.

Original story: 100 Mile Fire Rescue has closed off Wrangler Way in 100 Mile House due to a natural gas leak.

Emergency services are on scene at the South Cariboo Visitors Center and no further details are as yet available.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 am.
