For the sixth consecutive month, tourism numbers were on the rise in the South Cariboo.
Val Streber, an information counselor with the South Cariboo Visitor Info Centre, gives the numbers for June with some potential reasons for the increase.
“I really do think more people are travelling. It could be the fine weather we’ve been having, the lack of smoke and the lower dollar. I can tell you we’re up between 25 and 30 percent.”
Streber says the lower dollar has more Americans passing through en route to Alaska, while Europeans have been cancelling other plans to stay over fire and air quality concerns.
