The latest job vacancy numbers are out.
Stats Canada Labour Market Analyst, Elton Cryderman says BC ranked higher than the national average but were on par with the prairies.
“The job vacancy rate for the second quarter was 3.3%, nationally that rate was 2.8%. Alberta was very similar at 3.4% while Saskatchewan was at 3.2.
Cryderman adds for the first time ever in this study they were able to tie in the hourly wage.
“Nationally that figure was $18.80 an hour on average. In BC it was similar to that at $18.00 an hour on average.”
BC currently has 66,500 job vacancies which ranks below Ontario, Alberta and Quebec.
The most common jobs available in the province are in the sales and services sector.
