BC sees more homicides in 2014

Stats Canada has released the provincial homicide numbers for 2014.

Analyst, Zoran Mildiniovic says BC saw more murders last year but saw a drop in another category.

“The number of homicides in BC increased from 76 in 2013 to 88 in 2014 but the provincial homicide rate was lower than the 10 year average from 2004 to 2013.”

Manitoba has the highest provincial homicide rate at 3.43 homicides for every 100 thousand people.

BC’s homicide rate for 2014 was 1.90.

Canadian police services reported 516 murders across the country last year.
