Quesnel Board of Education Faces Cuts

How do cut more out of a budget that has already been cut year after year ?

 That is the almost 916-thousand dollar question that Quesnel’s Board of Education is facing in next year’s budget.
 Board Chair Tony Goulet says this is the worst it’s been in the 12 years that he’s been a Trustee.
He says they’ve been asked to cut, cut, cut and they just can’t do it anymore.
Goulet says the shortfall is the result of numerous factors but mainly declining enrollment, declining revenue from things like continuing education, adult learning and international students as well as increased costs for Hydro, MSP premiums and Work safe BC.
He says the Provincial Government has then added to the pressure by requesting about 200 thousand dollars in cuts to administration.
 Goulet says the Board will send a letter to both the Education Minister and the Finance Minister asking them where they are supposed to find the money.

BCGEU strike headed to mediation

The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the provincial government have agreed to enter non-binding mediation, expected to begin as soon as possible. Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers are to be the mediators facilitating the process. The BCGEU said in a statement, it's members will still maintain picket lines across the province while mediation proceeds.
