Cancer Society links red meat to Colon Cancer

The Canadian Cancer Society has released new information on a possible cancer link to red meat.

Health Promotion Coordinator, Alicia Perry says consuming red meat maybe more harmful than first thought.

“The International Research Agency on Cancer has classified red meat as a group 2 carcinogen while processed meats are a group 1 which is primarily linked to colorectal cancer.”

She says people should limit their consumption of red meat to three servings per week.

One serving equates to 85 grams or 3 ounces cooked.

Bacon was also included in the study.
