The Williams Lake Fire Department will be getting a new truck.
City Councillors approved a $514,068 bid to purchase a fire pumper truck at last night’s city council meeting.
Fire Chief Des Webster was pleased with the decision.
“It’s great for the department…It is a lot of money but it’s something that is necessary to provide the service that we do to the community.”
Webster adds that the new fire truck will serve great significance to the department.
“First of all we have a backup engine now if one of our engines go down…we are good for several years now with the new technology that comes out with it. It just increases our capabilities within the community.”
The new fire truck will replace a 20-year-old truck that has reached its maximum life expectancy.
The City of Williams Lake will make a down payment of ten percent with the remaining ninety percent to be taken out of next year’s budget.
