Temporary changes to medical services in 100 Mile House are now in effect while Interior health seeks replacements for their retiring Oncology and Obstetrics specialists.
Existing oncology patients according to a news release will be seen by an oncologist traveling from Williams Lake while obstetrics patients will continue to be connected to a family physician in Williams Lake by the perinatal team at Cariboo Memorial Hospital.
Interior Health says it recognizes the inconvenience this will cause, and is actively looking for a replacement Oncologist and also is continuing to reestablish obstetric services to 100 Mile House in the future.
“Pretty well every community in BC and Canada are having the same issue,” says Mayor Mitch Campsall noting that they are maintaining a nurse practitioner in the area and are working on getting more including physicians.
Obstetric services at 100 Mile District General Hospital have been suspended since April 2017
