Wildfire Grounds Planes At Williams Lake Airport

A flight to Vancouver was grounded at the Williams Lake Airport Friday afternoon as a wildfire nearby raged.

“The fire came up very quickly,” says passenger Donna Ford. “The plane was boarded and then they deboarded…They gave us options for a future flight or do we feel safe here waiting here. Until now we are still on standby for this flight to leave and the wind keeps changing momentarily so it’s quite a threat.

Ford adds that she was not fearful of the situation and had always felt safe as the communication was excellent and she knows they were following a very careful, precautionary, safe, procedure.

“There’s a flight at 7:15pm tonight I think I’m going to book if they don’t shut down the airport,” Ford said after City CAO Milo MacDonald arrived.

There are currently no further details at this time.
