The event is sponsored by the National Trust of Canada, the prize money, 40-thousand dollars is put up by the Royal Bank and the competition is called “This Place Matters.”
The competition is over for this year and Williams Lake’s famed Potato House was one of the entries from across the country.
The competition ended Tuesday and while the Potato House didn’t capture the big money, Executive Director Mary Forbes says we still won.
“And in the end the Potato House ended up raising in the order of about 15-thousand dollars from local community members.
That’s a mortgage and half payment.
So we did really well, we met, we exceeded our goal and we’re ready to roll for another year.
So Williams Lake we won!”
Forbes says there are many more special events happening at or including the Potato House in the coming weeks, including this weekend’s Medieval Market.
The Potato House will be having their heritage photo’s with ST. Nicholas event at the weekend-long market at the Lake City Secondary campus on Carson.
