100 Mile House Emergency Notifications Sent Broader than Intended

Emergency notifications were sent throughout the Cariboo recently in order to advise of a hazardous materials incident in 100 Mile House.

Unfortunately these notifications were sent to a broader distribution than the intended residents of 100 Mile House including residents in Williams Lake, Quesnel, and Wells.

CRD Chair Al Richmond says the mistake was caused by human error.

“We do apologize for that happening, our emergency response staff sent that out and they made an error which is unfortunate. But I think it did prove that our system works and we apologize for the inconvenience.”

Richmond says the error was further compounded when they tried to fix the alert and notifications were sent out again.

If residents are interested in signing up for the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification system they are asked to visit their local government’s website and can do so free of charge.
