Over the last two weeks several abandoned campfires were discovered within the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.
Fire Information Officer Natasha Broznitsky has this update.
“Abandoned campfires have been on the rise recently in the Cariboo Fire Centre. There have been two abandoned campfires just this week and last week an abandoned campfire sparked a wildfire in the Quesnel Lakes area. Our crews were successful in containing that fire at a small size and the fire has since been put out but it’s disappointing that we’re seeing abandoned campfires”.
The BC Wildfire Service is urging the public to adhere to all open burning regulations and be more diligent with their campfire use.
