Lone Butte is a designated extreme hazard area when it comes to forest fires.
The District of 100 Mile announced Tuesday they would apply for $400,000 for mitigation purposes in two major identified areas near Lone Butte, totaling 40 hectares. The money is available from the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM).
Here’s Councilman Bill Hadden:

Hadden says there are still predominantly dead pine stands still in that area.
If the $400,000 is approved, $360,000 of it would come from UBCM and the remaining $40,000 would come from the District of 100 Mile.
A timeline for funding approval is unknown.
