D Day For Bridge Lake School In The South Cariboo

The fate of another Cariboo school hangs in the balance prior to a School District 27 Board meeting in Williams Lake tonight.

Bridge Lake elementary in the South Cariboo is on the chopping block this time.

School Board Trustees gave first and second reading to close the school last week.

The plan would be to bus the 8 remaining students at Bridge Lake to Horse Lake elementary school…a distance of 38 kilometres.

The Quesnel School District is closing three schools this year.

Kersley, Parkland and Ecole Baker won’t be operating by this fall.

BRIDGE LAKE PARENTS CRY FOUL !

The President of the Bridge Lake School’s Parent Advisory Committee says the process leading up to the possible closure of their school has not been fair.

Piri De Vires says they need more time.

She says they just had a special meeting last week when they were given more information.

De Vires says that was just seven days before a final decision which didn’t give them enough time to give their statements and try to find a solution.

De Vires says they also wonder if what they say even matters.

She says they think the Board’s mind was already made up, although she obviously hopes that’s not the case.

And De Vries also says they would have more students in the school but some parents were told last fall that it was closing so they took their kids elsewhere.

Something going on in the Cariboo you think people should know about?
